This series consists of 4 sequences of files numbered using variations of the ADEPS (Alphabetical by Departments) system that the Department of Public Administration (DPA) inherited from the Public Service Board. Under this system 49 was the number for the Board and DPA used this number not only for its own internal management but also as the prefix for all its general subject and policy files relating to the management of the Tasmanian State Service, by attaching sub-numbers as follows: 49/1 - Administration, 49/2 - Accounts and Finance, 49/3 - Employment, 49/4 - Leave, 49/5 - Establishments/Classifications/Awards, 49/6 - Information Management, 49/7 - Committees, 49/8 - PABX, 49/9 - Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare, 49/10 - Legislation, Individual files were numbered starting at 1 in each category.Files for the rest of the agencies making up the State Service, although numbered, were filed alphabetically in a separate sequence. This was followed by 2 more sequences relating to delegations of authority (ADEPS/1) and individual classification decisions (ADEPS/5) which were also filed alphabetically. Many of the files originally in this series were top-numbered into the series AD762 so any missing files should be sought in that series.
