Series notes:
A combination of lists and indices to facilitate access to the various types of files maintained by the agency. Despite using a variety of numbering sequences for different subjects the Department of Public Administration treated its files as a single coherent body except for those of the personnel development section which maintained a separate filing system only because it was located in a different building. The Department continued to assign the ADEPS (alphabetical by department) numbers developed by its predecessors to all files dealing with individual departments, despite placing them in alphabetical sequences on the shelves. Its own number in the ADEPS sequence was 49 and this number was used for all general matters, divided into 10 subject areas. This takes the form 49/1.18 where49 = General (or Service-wide), 1 = Administration, and 18 = Circular memoranda. This volume contains alphabetical and numeric indices to the general files as well as lists of the ADEPS numbers for each Department, Board or Authority which had a Departmental file (used for organisation structure, consultancy and reviews) and/or a Delegation file (numbered in the form ADEPS/1) and/or a Classification file (numbered in the form ADEPS/5). There is also an index to an alphanumeric series of award files not transferred to the Archives Office and to the separate series of personnel development files (identified by the prefix PD) maintained in the agency.~
