Series notes:
The property files were a continuous single number series intended to contain a file for every plot of land in Tasmania with a surveyed boundary. A register sheet was created for each file with summary details of the parcel of land and details of subsequent transactions were entered on the register sheet. On the reverse of most sheets there is a map of the parcel. Each register sheet records the alphanumeric "Registration number" comprising the map name (from the 1:25,000 series) and a number allocated consecutively to each file created within the boundaries of that map; the "File number", usually a PF number but occasionally one of the other old file systems; the Municipality, Town etc.; details of the initial purchase; size of parcel; survey references; and details of any transactions up to about 1994.This series was created in the mid-1960s but information was transferred from existing files to the register sheets so information from the 1940s is recorded on some sheets. In 1989 when the PF series was abandoned this series of Registers was continued for several years and sheets for Licences (for shacks, boatsheds, jetties etc.) were added to the later volumes. The Property Files became the basis of a new 6 digit CSN series (see AB567) to which active files in most other series were converted. To convert "PF" numbers to those in the current filing system replace the prefix with an appropriate number of zeroes to create a 6 digit number.~
These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
Continuous single number with "PF" prefix.
