How to Use:
Copies of plans can be made for property owners for private use and study. Copyright in the plans remains with the creator of the plan.
Series notes:
Each packet comprises Building Surveyor's Office form showing details of building work, address, name of owner, name of builder and fee payment. The packets usually, but not always, contain a plan of the proposed work which may range from a rough sketch to hand coloured architect designed plan. In some cases the specifications are included. This usually depends of the size and nature of the proposed work. The numbers on the outside of the packet (and used in the item description in brackets) are the application numbers. The addresses on the outside of the packets reflect current street names and numbers but the documents inside may show old street names and numbers. Occasionally a house name is used. In some cases the address is unknown and a street name only is used. Some applications may not have proceeded. Early cancelled applications are included and can be identified by an older type of envelope used to contain the papers.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
Numerical with gaps where numbers were allocated but for some reason an application did not follow or was cancelled. The original numerical register appears not to have survived.;;
