Series notes:
In 1976-77 the Commonwealth Government replaced Financial Assistance Grants, as paid since 1959, with a new form of general purpose assistance grants. Under the scheme, State and Local Governments each received a fixed proportion of Commonwealth personal income tax collections.
Under these arrangements the Commonwealth and States agreed that a review of each State's proportion must take place before 1980-81. Authorised by Commonwealth legislation, a States' Relativities Review was thus conducted by the Commonwealth Grants Commission. It commenced work in 1978-79 and brought down its report in June 1981.
These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
