Series notes:
This series comprises the master print/lithograph set of Town Charts held in the former Lands Department in what was called the Central Plan Office (part of the Surveyor General's Office). These were working copies that were annotated by officers in the department. They cover land granted within towns.
Each plan shows the town name, date when put into use, grantee/owner names, boundary information including distances and areas, survey references and references to other plans. Other information such as road and feature names are also shown.
Numbers refer to Survey Diagram books still in the custody of the Department of Primary Industries Parks, Water and Environment.
In general the colour coding was: Yellow=private; Green=reserves and also towns; White=crown; Blue=forest.
As working plans, annotations and other changes continued to be added over their life time. The majority of plans were superseded mid-1980s to mid-1990s.
These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
