How to Use:
Search the index volume by surname and date range for the matter and note the reference number. Note the index may use an abbreviation when referring to a Deed Memorial (series AG193), a Judgement (series RD3), a Certificate of Satisfaction (series RD4) or a Power of Attorney (series RD6). To access Deed Memorials please contact the Department's online LIST https://www.thelist.tas.gov.au

An alternate way of searching this index is via the LIST.

It can be confusing when using the index to search for Deed Memorials (AG193) in the years immediately after 1827. At the beginning of each year the 'instrument number' begins again at number 1 but the 'folio number' continues on. For these early years the index includes both numbers. For example, a conveyance of title (C) for William Stokell in 1829 is numbered '1 337(F340)' which is book 1 instrument number 337 folio number 340. This can be found in AG193-1-2 Book 1 Number 337 (folio 340).

In later years the index just refers to book number and instrument number. For example, a reconveyance of title (REC) for Thomas Corbett in 1900 is numbered '10 2802' which is book number 10 instrument number 2802. This can be found in AG193-1-400 Book 10 Number 2802.
Series notes:
Indexes to deed owner's names to pinpoint land by ownership. These indexes are vital for accessing all deeds prior to 1972. Since 1972 indexes are in digital systems managed by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
In six alphabetical sequences by name of owner. There were some errors when these were created, particularly in the 1958 to 1972 indexes. So if you cannot find a name always check the neighbouring volume.
