Registers in this series include references to Crown Land purchased under both the Waste Lands Act 1870 Section 24 and the Crown Lands Act 1890, Section 31. The Crown Lands Act 1890 was an act for regulating the sale and disposal of Crown Land in Tasmania. The 1890 act divided land into two classes:Town Land and Rural Land. Section 31 of the Crown Lands Act 1890, specified who was entitled to purchase and select land under the act, and the type of land that could be purchased. The Waste Lands Act 1870 was an act for regulating the sale and disposal of waste lands of the crown. Waste Land refers to any lands in the colony which are or may become vested in the crown and have not been dedicated to any public use. Section 24 specified conditions relating to the selection and purchase of land. Details that can be found in these registers include, the name of the purchaser of the land, the situation and area of the land, the date of contract, the purchase amount, deposit amount and instalments paid.
