Series notes:
Examples of 'unconditional' or 'free' pardons for Tasmanian convicts. The pardons were absolute remissions with no conditions imposed.

Pardons from different administration periods are in slightly different formats. Some include descriptions of the convict, while others also include details of the original sentence. While useful to show how the administration processed pardons, these documents include no additional information to that in a convict's conduct record.

The certificates in this series are likely to have been given to the convict as evidence of their release. A number is given to each pardon with this number recorded in the convict's conduct record. This would allow cross checking regarding the authenticity of the pardon.

These records are part of the holdings of the Tasmanian Archives
System of Arrangement:
A single number has been imposed. No original order.
