This is one of the series which was established in May 1826 to differentiate outward correspondence into categories. It was devoted chiefly to correspondence addressed to private individuals. Since there was apparently no provision made then for correspondence to masters and surgeons-superintendent of convict ships (cf. CSO 91), letters to them are also to be found here. From January 1827 the appropriate file number (see under CSO 1) begins to be quoted. There is no index.
