The Crown Lands Act was an act for regulating the sale and disposal of the lands of the Crown in Tasmania. The Crown Lands Act 1903 stipulated that land in rural areas was to be classified into three classes: First, Second and Third class. Section 31a of the act referred specifically to first class agricultural land not exceeding 200 acres or not less than 15 acres. The registers in this series are a record of the sale and purchases of this land. The registers list the name of the purchaser of the land, the situation and area of the land, the date of contract, the purchase amount, deposit amount and instalments paid.
