Andrew K McGaw was a surveyor by profession and moved to Tasmania from the U.K. in 1903 as Manager of the Van Diemen's Land Company. He was active in local affairs during his time in Burnie and organisations of which he was a member included: Tasmanian committee of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research , Agricultural Bureau of Tasmania, Tasmanian Timber Organization and the Northwestern Sawmilling Association, Burnie Agricultural Show and the Burnie Benevolent Society . He was also warden and later Master Warden of the Burnie Marine Board. He was appointed C.M.G. in 1937
