Description:
John Headlam (d. 1843) arrived in Van Diemen's Land, with his wife and six children, in 1820. He ran a school, first in Hobart, then in Launceston, until 1830. In 1823 he received a grant of 775 acres at Campbell Town; his son Charles expanded the property, Egleston, and eventually became the largest landholder in Tasmania.
