The agency commenced with the objective of providing for the education, industrial training and general advancement of the blind and deaf in Tasmania and now manages investments and bequests for the Royal Guide Dogs for the Blind Association of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Deaf Society Inc.;;1887:The Society for the Benefit of the Tasmanian Blind formed .;;1889 to 1894: Society work is suspended. ;;1897: Society renamed:'Tasmanian Institution for the Blind, Deaf and Dumb' ;;1933 legislation : Incorporation of Society;;Nov 1949: Name Change: ' Tasmanian Institute for the Blind and the Deaf' ;;1955 Amendment to 1933 Act adopted Nov 3rd to include a blind person's representative on the Board of Management.;;Dec 17th 1963:Principal Act (repealing 1933 and 1949 Acts) ;; "Tasmanian Institute of the Blind and the Deaf" to be continued as "The Royal Tasmanian Society for the Blind and the Deaf" The society continues under this Act as a body Corporate with perpetual succession and common seal.;;April 1985: The Society incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and under the Royal Tasmanian Society for the Blind and Deaf Act 1985, all assets of the society vested in company.;;1987 The Royal Tasmanian Society of the Blind and the Deaf , within the next six months effects the transfer of responsibility for the provision of services with operating resources to independent organisations for the blind and the deaf.
