Description:
Peter Laurie Reid was a professional portrait and travel photographer.Reid's first businesses included a store and post office at 172 Elizabeth Street, Hobart, and a registry office at 44 Murray Street. In 1863/64 Reid set up a photography business with partner Matthew Patrick Dowling. Their partnership was short-lived, ending acrimoniously in 1864. In September 1865 Reid changed the name of his company to the London Portrait Gallery and returned to 172 Elizabeth Street. In 1867 Reid moved to Launceston where he operated a portrait gallery and worked as a travelling photographer.By 1878 Reid was at Latrobe, near Devonport, and his Launceston studios had been taken over by G. Padman. ;;Reid married Sarah Seabrook in 1857. Art the time he listed his profession as 'carpenter'. Sarah and Peter had two daughers, Emma Laura and Louisa Alice, and two sons William Albert, and Henry William.
