Edith Alice Waterworth was active in the social and moral questions which characterised the women's movement from the 1920s to 1950s. She was trained as a teacher and married John Newham Waterworth, optician, in 1903 and then moved to Tasmania from Queensland.;;She was president and member of the Women's Non-Party League and active in the Women's Criminal Law Reform Association, National Council of Women, Child Welfare Association, National Fitness Club, Free Kindergarten Association and Board of Censors of Moving Pictures. She stood unsuccessfully for Parliament in 1922 and 1925.
