Description:
The Rats of Tobruk Association was an organisation formed by war veterans of the seige of the Libyan Port of Tobruk which occured between 10 April and early December 1941. The seige represents the first major reversal for German forces on land during WWII and was fought by Australian, British and Polish Allied troops. As such the association was international and had branches existing in every state of Australia except the Northern Territory. Its function was to perpetuate ties of comradeship amongst its members and their families as well as to assist in their welfare. The Hobart Branch published 'Rats Review' from 1948-1999, which is one of the longest-serving, regular, ex-servicemen's publications in Australia. Due to the age and fragility of its members the association was forced to close in 1999 and any funds left over were donated to the Hobart Legacy.
