Lloyd Arthur Chappell was the only son of Arthur Chappell and Charlotte (Lottie) Koerbin, who were married in 1908. Lloyd was born in 1911. Arthur was a hotel proprietor at various establishments around the state - Swansea, Melton Mowbray, Ross, Queenstown and Fern Tree. Lloyd became a radio technician and projectionist and worked for much of his life in the Visual Aids Department, Education Department of Tasmania. He developed an interest in photography - a member of the Queenstown Camera Club while living on the West Coast - which led to an interest in the moving image.;;Lloyd served in the Air Force during World War 2 and during that time he met and married his first wife Dorothy Stanley. ;;Lloyd retired to Coles Bay, Tasmania, with his second wife Beryl Wilson (formerly Buchanan).;;
