Description:
Colonial family. Joseph Tice Gellibrand was a lawyer and appointed attorney-general in Van Diemen's Land in 1824 until his removal from office in 1826. He continued to practice law and was later involved in the Port Phillip Association. He was married to Isabella Kerby and they had nine children. Of these, Walter Angus Bethune, Thomas Lloyd and William St Paul Gellibrand became members of parliament. A son, Joseph Tice Gellibrand, became a church minister and was the father of Sir John Gellibrand, noted soldier.
