As a community funded organization, the Asthma Foundation of Tasmania aimed to provide services to people with Asthma, their families and carers. Focus activities of the foundation included swimming classes, medical education, and camps for children. ;;The Tasmanian Longitudinal Health Study (TAHS), originally known at the Tasmanian Asthma Survey, was a major project for the Foundation with national significance. Commencing in 1968 this collaborative project involved the Asthma Foundation, Tasmanian Health Department staff and staff from the Universities of Queensland and New South Wales. 8410 children born in 1961 were part of this long-term study investigating the history and presence of respiratory symptoms and signs. The original survey, commenced in 1968 and was conducted by Associate Professor B Gandevia and Dr Hall. Survey follow up work was undertaken in the 1974 under the direction of Professor J Norelle Lickiss. In 1981 a 10% random sample of the original cohort was studied. In 1984 a paper covering the studies was published in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine. In 1987 data from the survey was entered into a digital system. TAHS was transferred to the University of Melbourne in the 1990. Further follow-up work of the 1968 participants was undertaken at various times over the next decades. As of 2019 the TAHS was still operating and undertaking research under the oversight of the University of Melbourne.;;Tasmania was the last state to establish an Asthma Foundation. The Asthma Foundation of Tasmania held its inaugural pre-launch meeting in Launceston in September 1965. An official Tasmanian launch was held in Hobart in October 1965, with another 'inaugural' meeting held in Hobart in February 1966. A state-wide board and council oversaw the activities of the Foundation with regional committees and branches established from the 1960s. The Board was assisted by a medical advisory committee. A North-West Branch was established in 1966, and a Hobart or southern branch operated from 1979. The Foundation was incorporated in 1995, changing its name to 'Asthma Tasmania'. At this point a Committee of Management, meeting monthly, was appointed to oversee the operation of the Foundation. It appears that the North West branch closed around 2005/06 with management of the Foundation then centralised to the Southern office.;;In the 1970s the Foundation had offices at Salamanca Place, Hobart. Following this, the Foundation was based for many years in Davey Street, Hobart at Girl Guides' House. In 1985 the Foundation moved its headquarters to Hampden House, Hampden Road, and in the 1990s the Foundation moved to Ellerslie Road, Battery Point, and the New Town Rd, New Town in the 2000s. Upon closure in 2019 the Foundation was operating from offices in Effingham Rd, Moonah.;;In 1986 a state-wide field officer / asthma nurse service was established with officers employed by the foundation in the south, north, and north-west. These officers, all registered nurses, provided education and support to people suffering with asthma their families and carers.;;Camps for 7-12 year old children with Asthma were conducted from 1970. Annual camps were held at a range of locations - Ross, Pt Arthur, Dover, Deviot, Conningham, Port Sorell and Lauderdale.;;From 1983 the Foundation operated a Sir Donald von Bibra scholarship. Commemorating a past president, this scholarship funded professionals working in the Tasmania with regard to Asthma.;;In the 2000s the Foundation employed five staff - an executive officer, a finance/fundraising officer, and three registered nurses. On 1 October 2017 Asthma Australia Ltd was formed with the merger of Old, NSW, Vic, SA and ACT. In 2019 Tasmania joined Asthma Australia and in March 2019 the Tasmanian Asthma Foundation was closed.
