Description:
A subscription-based Public Library was established in Burnie in 1896. It became the rate-supported Burnie Municipal Library, part of the State Library of Tasmania, in 1944, and the Hellyer Regional Library in 1965. A "Burnie Independent Library" operated ca.1944-1970.
