End Date:

Description:
Established to stimulate and maintain public interest in the production, distribution, and exhibition of films and television programmes for children under the age of 16 years. In this guise the body arranged, publicised and supported the screening of suitable films and encouraged and advised on the Australian production of films whilst co-operating with the Government and film producers. In doing so the council developed and informed public opinion with the object of stimulating community action and influencing the State Government legislation on matters including censorship. The TCCFT co-operated with other Australian State Councils for Films and Television and acted as an advisory body to individual parents, teachers and their organizations, and to film and television producers, distributors and exhibitors, Government departments institutions and authorities. Local councils were also established including a Hobart council in August of 1957.
