David Cauvin was a crew member of the ship Mayflower in 1957 and involved in the re- enactment of this ships famous voyage. David, the son of Cape Town's Senior Pilot, had previous experience sailing on the Dutch period ship Drommedaris with his father as master. David went on to be a Master Mariner. After retiring from this role David and his wife Ayako lived in Hong Kong where he operated a ships chancellery. David died in Hobart in 1988 aged 53. David's sister was the Tasmanian Ceramicist Barbara Cauvin (Claessens).
