The Hood family comprises Robin Preston Lloyd (or Lloyd Preston) Hood (1852-1887) and Mary Anne (Annie) Hood (nee Facy) (d.1840) and their descendants. Draper, Robin Preston Lloyd Hood, was born in Hobart 30 June 1852 to Robin Lloyd (d.1916) a gilder and picture framer by trade, and Isabel (nee Preston) (d.1911). Robin Preston Lloyd married Mary Anne (Annie) Facy in 1878. They had five children including a son Harold Bruce Hood (1880-1952). ;;The Chesterman family comprises blacksmith Henry (c.1828-) and Mary (nee Swinfield) (1838-) and their descendants. Henry and Mary married in 1857 and had thirteen children including Amy Deardon Eveline Chesterman (1878-1972).;;Henry Chesterman and Robin Lloyd Preston Hood were both attached to and invested in Lodge No. 536 Hobart of the Royal Arch Masons of England. ;;Amy Chesterman married Harold Hood, working as an assayer for the Colebrook Prospecting Association, in 1914. Amy and Harold had a son Geoffrey Preston (1917-2002).In December 1936 Harold Hood was elected to the Hobart Marine Board, an appointment which lasted until 1942 upon his retirement. ;;Geoffrey Preston Hood attended the Junior Technical School and Hobart High School, before graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Tasmania in 1943.. In 1932 as a 14 year old Geoffrey was part of a group of 50 boys of a similar age taken to Sydney as part of an Young Australia League (YAL) delegation. The purpose of the YAL was to foster patriotism and nationalism in the nation's youth. Geoffrey qualified for the Royal Life Saving Society Certificate in 1933. He was also an active rower, secretary of the National Union of Australian University Students (TAS), and was a cadet in the Australian Army Ordnance Corps (AAOCM) based at Fort Alexandra, Hobart. In 1944 he resigned his position at the technical college and joined the Royal Australian Naval Reserve (RANVR) serving onboard HMS Suffolk and HMAS Australia. By 1954 Geoffrey had attained the rank of Commander RANVR. In 1945 Geoffrey married Arelene Rae Anthony (d.1888), a health scientist and food nutritionist.
