People for Nuclear Disarmament (PND) groups commenced in Tasmania some time prior to March 1983 and were part of the network of similar groups already operating elsewhere in Australia. ;;PND groups stated aims and objectives were the removal of foreign military bases from Australia, the withdrawal of Australia from all military alliances particularly ANZUS, cessation of uranium mining and processing of nuclear material, cessation of visits by nuclear warships and aircraft to Australia, and the establishment of a nuclear free zone in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.;;Burnie People for Nuclear Disarmament was disbanded in October 1989.
