The Parents and Friends Association began as a residents committee which grew out of the Mount Stuart Progress Association and which lobbied for the establishment of a school in the growing suburb of Mount Stuart. It was successful with the establishment of a Pre-School Centre (later kindergarten) in 1948 and then the Infant and Primary School in 1957. The membership comprised parents of both pre-school and infant and primary school students but split into two bodies in 1972 when the parents of kindergarten children thought a separate body would better cater for kindergarten needs.;;
