Robert Gordon Melville Mitchell was born 21 May 1875 in Calcutta, India and educated at Brighton College, England. He served in the Colonial Civil Service as a Barrister at Law and was admitted to the High Court, Calcutta 24 July 1899. He applied for colonial employment elsewhere within the British Empire in 1906.;;;;He married Marion Limond Mason, aged 22, born Ulverstone at St Paul's Church of England, East Devonport on January 21 1913 when he was aged 37. He was then an orchadist at Deviot on the West Tamar where he lived on the property 'Milgia' (later owned by Dr. Reginald John Green).;;;;A daughter Rosalie Edith Marion Mitchell was born 7 Dec 1913 at Ulverstone.;;;;Marion Mitchell, widow, aged 73 died 15 July 1963 at Ulverstone.;;;;Robert Gordon Melville Mitchell, 'late of His Majesty's Imperial Forces' died of wounds in France on the 10 Oct 1916. He was buried in Belgium.;;Mitchell enlisted at Claremont, Tasmania 13 Sept 1915 and died a Lance-Corporal 13th Reinforcements, 15th Battallion - 4th Brigade AIF.
