A public meeting was held at the Devonport Town Hall on 14.4.1955 to consider a suggestion for a floral festival to be held at Devonport. The meeting was attended by representatives from various associations and community groups.;;;;The idea for the festival was that a week could be set aside during which various activities could take place in Devonport sponsored by various organisations of the town.;;;;It was decided that a general committee be formed, comprising representatives of the many organisations in Devonport for the purpose of investigating further possibilities of the Floral Festival and Organising the same if possible and deciding all the neccessary details. The committee then began to meet on a monthly basis.
