Save the Children Fund is the world's largest independent organisation for children. Founded in the UK in 1919 it provides from emergency relief to long-term development in helping children achieve a happy, healthy and secure childhood. The Fund upholds the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Save the Children Fund Australia supports the development and assistance of programs in Australia and overseas.;;;;The Tasmanian Division was formed 7 Oct 1964. Its first president was Mr Chester Clifford. In 1965 a Women's Group was formed to fundraise and in 1969 this group became the Sandy Bay Branch. In 1971 the Eastern Shore branch was formed and in 1973 a branch at Launceston was established which by 1979 was enlarged and ratified.
