The Club was formed at a meeting held at the AIF Club rooms on the 8/4/1936. With the AIF Club being absorbed into the RSL the Club voted and passed a motion in August 1959 to rename the Club the Sandy Bay Smallbore Rifle Club. Not withstanding this, the Club's minutes continued to be titled the AIF Miniature Rifle Club thereafter. It should be noted that this name change was subject to the approval of the Sandy Bay Fullbore Rifle Club which presumably was never granted.
