Description:
William Bramich (1798-1861) arrived in Hobart in 1821 as a convict aboard the Lady Ridley. William married Marion Johnstone (1808-1869), a free arrival, in 1827 in Launceston. William and Marion settled in the Deloraine district where they had eight children - Barth, Thomas, William, James, John, Arthur, Marion and Mary. Williams's brother John (1810-1881) with his wife Ann Woodward (1811-1899) and two children Emma and Thomas arrived in Launceston from London by the 'Thomas Laurie' in 1838. By the mid-1840's they had turned their attention to the Deloraine area. Upon the sale of Captain William Moriarty's Dunorlan property, John Bramich and his brother-in-law bought the south-east section, John naming his half 'Hilltop'. Amongst other Bramichs who settled in the district were Joseph (1813-1881), Martha Addison (nee Bramich) (1805-1863) and Caroline Tidesley (nee Bramich) (b.1815). Joseph was a hotelier in his later years in Latrobe.
