John Gee was born in Rathmolyon, County Meath, Ireland in 1815. A carpenter and builder he emigrated with his family, John, Richard, Samuel, Katherine, Lizzie and Mary Anne, and arrived in Launceston in 1864. His wife, Mary Anne (nee Rock) was also from Rathmolyon, Ireland. She died in August,1883 in Launceston. John Gee Snr. died in Launceston in December 1909. The Examiner newspaper carried an informative obituary.;;Richard Gee was an importer of books, stationery, pianos and organs, in Charles Street, Launceston and was in business from 1872 until 1907. He was Mayor of Launceston in 1914 , a foundation trustee of Methodist Ladies College and a board member of the Launceston Bank for Savings and the Launceston General Hospital. ;;He married Emily Stewart in March 1878 and they had seven children, one of whom was Arthur Rock Gee, organist, choirmaster and leading Launceston music teacher.;;Richard Gee died on 2 August 1943.
