Mrs Margaret Mickle was born in Scotland circa 1830, a daughter of John Lyall (c.1786-1845) and Helen Webster. The family emigrated to Tasmania in 1836. Margaret married John Mickle in 1848 in Melbourne. She wrote her reminiscences in April 1892 at her home "Elderslie", Belmont, Geelong, Victoria.
