Alfred Winter was a Hobart based photographer. He was born in St James, Sydney NSW 8 July 1837 to Richard and Elizabeth. In 1861 he was working as a photographer in Melbourne and is recorded as visiting Tasmania in the 1860s. By 1870 he was active as a photographer in Tasmania. He had studios in Bathurst, Elizabeth and Liverpool Street from 1869 to 1891. Winter exhibited at the Melbourne Intercolonial Exhibition of 1880. Winter married Sarah Catherine Cox 31 July 1873. He died aged 73 in 13/4/1911.
