Benjamin Hyrons (1795-1873) leased the 'London Tavern', on the corner of St John and Cameron Streets, Launceston, to Samuel Story or Storey (c1801-1856) on 15 October 1844 for the total sum of one thousand, one hundred pounds, for an initial term of fourteen years.;;;;Benjamin Hyrons (Hines), a shoemaker from Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England, came to Tasmania as a convict on the 'Lord Melville' on 17 December 1818 with his wife Amelia nee Baker. She went to Sydney and married George Welsh. Benjamin married Sophia Wood on 23 March 1829. Her son John Wood was born on 15 July 1828; he later took on the name Hyrons. Benjamin received his Conditional Pardon on 18 June 1831 and was a bootmaker in Hobart. Later that year he and Sophia moved to Launceston where Benjamin became a publican. Sophia died on 29 June 1832. Benjamin married Mahala Hedditch on 28 November 1833. He received his Free Pardon on 9 March 1836. ;;;;He became the licensee of the 'London Tavern' in October 1838. In November 1842 he was granted a licence to hold dramatic performances in the 'Olympic Theatre', a room he had built attached to the tavern. Benjamin also ran coach services from Launceston to George Town, Longford, Perth and Hobart. He purchased the river steamers 'Governor Wynyard' and 'James Francis' to run ferry services to George Town. He owned other hotels in Hobart, Longford, George Town and Launceston at various times. After his wife Mahala died on 3 February 1862 Benjamin married his fifth wife Maria Duncan on 27 June 1863. Benjamin Hyrons died at George Town on 21 January 1873 and was buried at the Cypress Street Cemetery, Launceston.;;;;Samuel Thomas Story (Storey), an innkeeper, was born about 1801. He married Mary Ann Bilson on 4 May 1835. They had five children between 1836 and 1844, but two died young. Mary Ann died aged 34 on 14 January 1853. Samuel married Amelia Thomas, a widow, on 17 November 1853. Samuel Story died aged 55 on 8 November 1856. He was buried in the Cypress Street Cemetery.
