Description:
St Matthias' Church was the first church consecrated in Northern Tasmania by the first Bishop (Rev F.R. Nixon). It was consecrated on18 April 1845. Construction of the church commenced in 1842, on land donated by Dr Matthias Gaunt, one of the pioneer settlers in Northern Tasmania. Four generations of the Rosevears family were connected with the church.
