The Hon Sir George Hunter Crawford was born on 12 Dec 1911. He was educated at the East Launceston Primary School, Launceston Church Grammar School and University of Tasmania. For 20 years he was a partner with the law firm Douglas & Collins and a Puisne Judge of Tasmania from 10 Nov 1958 to 11 Dec 1981. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Second AIF, and was based in Darwin when the city came under attack. He had an interest in Tasmania's natural beauty and history. He wrote a number of local histories and was one of the editors of "The diaries of John Helder Wedge, 1824-1835". He was chairman of the Tasmanian Historical Research Association and the Royal Society. He was also interested in football and cricket. He was knighted in Jun 1972.;;;;George H Crawford married Helen Zoe Anderson in 1936. They had two sons and a daughter, Bruce, Ewan and Caroline. Lady Crawford died on 22 Nov 1976. Sir George Crawford died on 21 Oct 1993 aged 81.
