Stephen Spurling II worked as a photographer in Launceston, initially as a branch of his father's Hobart studio (established by Spurling I in the 1860s), but in his own right from 1875. It is claimed he was the first photographer in Tasmania to use dry plates. He did both landscape and portrait work.
