Jill Ferrall was educated in Launceston and her arts studies at the TCAE included an overseas study tour. She has a background in small business, specialist exhibitions and conservation, and her interests are reflected in her association with the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and the Launceston Art Foundation. Jill Farrell was appointed as a member of the Tasmanian Arts Advisory Board in 1986.;;
