Harold Bentley (Bill) Holmes was born on 13 Jul 1918 at David Street, Newstead, Launceston, to Harold Bentley Holmes (1876-1935) and Eliza Jane (Dolly) nee Adams (1876-1965). Bill Holmes' father was born in India, but after spending a short time in New Norfolk, the family moved to West Scottsdale. ;;;;Bill commenced compiling information on the North East goldfields in 1981. With his son Terry he explored most of the mining tunnels in Golconda and Panama. Other people who helped with information were George Bessell (Lisle), Thomas and Les Kelly (Golconda) and Bert Brewer (Denison). H B (Bill) Holmes lived in Devonport (1985), George Town and Newnham. He married Mavis Jean Clayton, a great granddaughter of Henry Clayton. He appears to have died about 1998.
