Percy William Steel, born about 1864, was a farmer and butcher of Gould's Country and Anson's Bay in north-east Tasmania. He married Jessie Johnston in January 1891. They had nine children between 1892 and 1906, although the eldest died as a baby. P W Steel published two pamphlets on the history of the north-east: "Eight bob a day" and "Centenary history of the municipality of Portland". P W Steel died aged 84 on 24 June 1948 and was buried at Gould's Country. His wife Jessie died aged 89 on 29 October 1957.
