John Leslie Gray was born on the 11th May 1947 in Hobart; the son of Alan Leslie Gray and Edith May (nee McGurk) who married at Macquarie Plains, Tasmania on the 4 November 1933. ;;John Gray was a Building Designer who lived at 2 Derwent Street, Brighton from where he ran his general engineering and architectural drafting service, which included home design and plans; house extensions and structural steel detailing. It was called "All Purpose Drafting".;;Following his death in 2005 his hand-drawn architectural plans were acquired by TAHO as an example of the way plans were drafted before the advent of computerisation.;;;;The plans are from projects in Hobart and the surrounding greater suburban and rural areas.
