Start Date:
01 Feb 1920
Description:
A sub-committee of the above Association was formed at Scottsdale on Saturday last (1920), having for its object the betterment of the returned men on the land in every possible way. Much interest was taken in the proceedings, at which 26 men were present. The following officers were elected : Chairman, Mr A. H. Thorpe; Secretary, Mr C McNamara ; Committee, Messrs Barttett, Camm, K. Williams, G. Lowe, V, Wilson, H. Thurley and S. McBean. As there are no less than 61 returned men on the land in the districts likely to be affected by this Association, it will be readily seen that it should have the assistance and support of every soldier either at present or likely to be making his livelihood by rural pursuits.;;There are no records for this association. It was still in existence in 1970 when it gave evidence to a Select Committee of the Legislative Council that was enquiring into rentals and purchase prices for soldier settlement holdings in Tasmania.
