Description:
The first Baptist Church in Australia was established in Hobart on 14 June 1835. Reverend Henry Dowling was present at the first meeting which took place in Jeremiah Ware's house in Elizabeth Street, Hobart. Reverend Henry Dowling became Van Diemen's Land first Baptist Minister. The first Baptist chapel in the colony was built in York Street, Launceston and opened on 27 December 1840.
