Louis Arndell Burrowes, born at Launceston on 28 October 1872, was the eldest of four children of William Townsend Burrowes (1844-1908), civil engineer and surveyor, and Elizabeth Emily Gunn (1845-1919). Elizabeth was a daughter of Lieut. William Gunn of Glen Dhu. Louis became a Lieutenant in the Launceston Rifle Regiment on 20 Mar 1890. He later had a commission in the Lincoln Regiment and was involved in the campaign in Sudan.;;On 20 Aug 1902 Louis married Lilan Carr White, only daughter of F A White, 'Grove House', Canterbury, England. The marriage took place at St Mary's Church, Chester, England. They had at least three children.;;During World War 1 Captain Louis Burrowes became a brigade major attached to the Eastern command. By the War's end he had been promoted to Lieut.-Colonel and in Jun 1919 he was awarded an OBE in recognition for the excellent service he had rendered the Empire.;;He was the son of William Townsend and Emily Elizabeth Burrowes (formerly Gunn) and the grandson of Lieutenant William Gunn.;;;;
