Edward Buse Adams, born at 'Idlewild', Pipers River, Tasmania, on 9 May 1874, was the 6th of 13 surviving children of Charles Adams (born 1834) and Elizabeth Ann, nee Chamberlain, (1842-1888). Edward left school at 13 years of age and worked on his father's farm. In 1899 he joined the First Imperial Bushman's Brigade and fought in the Boer War. On his return he took up sheep and cattle farming on Jerusalem Plains near Bridport. ;;;;At the age of 42 Edward enlisted with the 8th Field Artillery Brigade on 9 May 1916. He served in France during World War 1. After he had recovered from wounds he joined the 7th Field Artillery Brigade. Wounded again, he was discharged from the Army and returned home on 29 June 1918. ;;;;He married Gwendoline Stella Flexmore on 12 December 1919. They settled near Bridport, first on a property called 'Umtali', then 'Bridale' and later 'Malmani'. They had five surviving children, including Keith Adams, film maker, author and crocodile hunter. Edward died aged 72 on 30 April 1946.
