Description:
The Launceston High School was established by Edward Alleyne Nathan in February 1884 at Milton Hall in Frederick Street.;;Nathan was born in Sydney in 1856, one of 15 children of Dr Charles Nathan, FRCS England and later of Macquarie Street, Sydney, and Harriet, nee Fisher. In 1872, Nathan followed Rev. William H Savigny, to Launceston to teach at the Church Grammar School (Savigny had taught Nathan at a private school in Bathurst). Nathan returned to Sydney then came back to be in charge of the Grammar School boarding house. It was after this that he founded the Launceston High School.;;Nathan left the school in 1899 and was succeeded by R. Ernest Smith as Head.;;The School was eventually absorbed by the Launceston Church Grammar School after 1912.
