Description:
The Australian Society of Breeders of British Sheep originally consisted of several associations of sheepbreeders concerned with British breeds of sheep. The Society began operations in Tasmania in 1892 with the 'Tasmanian Longwool Sheepbreeders Association'. Other associations that came under the society included the 'Tasmanian Southdown Sheepbreeders Association', and the 'Australian Longwool Sheepbreeders Association'. In 1935 the Australian Longwool Sheepbreeders Association merged with the Australian Breeders of British Sheep. The Society publishes an annual "Australian Flock Register', the 'Flock Book', along with a journal 'The Muster of Australian breeders of British Sheep'. In 2002 the Corporate body 'Australian Society of Breeders of British Sheep' changed its name to 'the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association Limited'. As at 2022, State branches of the Australian Stud Sheep Breeders Association operated in Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria.
