Elizabeth Badley, daughter of the Hon Francis Townshend and widow of Francis Badley of Jamaica, was born in 1771. She died in Launceston on 20 Februrary 1838 one week after her arrival in Van Diemen's Land. The beneficiaries of her estate were her god daughter, Frances Amelia Cox, daughter of John Edward Cox, formerly of Launceston, deceased innkeeper; her son William Porter Badley of London, gentleman and her friends James Grant, of Hobart, gentleman and John Ward Gleadow of Launceston, solicitor.
