Robert Hewett (Bob) Green was born in Launceston on 4 November 1925, a son of Geoffrey Hewett Green. He attended the Launceston Church Grammar School until the age of 15, after which he ran the family property 'Middle Park' at Antill Ponds for 20 years. ;;;;In 1959 he was the honorary ornithologist for the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston. In 1961 he was appointed as an assistant in zoology. In January 1962 he became a permanent member of the staff at QVMAG in charge of all matters relating to zoology and botany. RH Green was awarded the Natural History medallion by the Field Naturalist Club of Victoria in 1987. In 1990 he received an Order of Australia in the General Division. The honour of Curator Emeritus was conferred by the Launceston City Council in recognition of his 29 years of distinguished service at QVMAG. He retired from the Museum in 1990. RH Green published several books and over 120 articles on the fauna and flora of Tasmania.
